WHAT ARE YOU REALLY TAKING?
Q: I heard recently that a bobsledder in the Olympics tested positive for a drug, because he was taking a product that was not pure and had some type of androstenedione in it. The biggest surprise to me was that this product was from one of the most popular, highly marketed companies out there.
A: Why surprised? The most popular, highly marketed companies are generally just that --great marketing companies. The fact is, that when you spend millions and millions of dollars a year on your ads and endorsements there may not be much left over to put into your product. That means you must cut corners to still make a profit.
Here is an independent test of a can of Muscle Provider
taken right off the shelf...
Beverly exceeds label claim in the very important BCAA's (Ile, Leu, and Val) by 38%!
Beverly may not have the most expensive marketing, but we do make the best supplements! Even all our competitors agree on this. We are the only company in the industry where reputation depends solely on results instead of being judged by mass-market appeal and name recognition.
Many of the lab tests and quality checks that are published by these big companies, are performed by their own lab affiliates - so what do you expect the results are going to be! In the real world, when independent unbiased tests are done, very few companies are even close to their label claim, and often have completely different substances in them compared to what the label says. Ugh. The reason that you may find andro in a product, is because it's cheap and creates aggression (and probably acne on your back) and this makes you feel like you're slightly juiced up. Johnny Gym Rat does not realize that the other ingredients in this product may be worthless and that andro will not build an ounce of muscle. Sugar is another ingredient that big companies love. It makes things taste good, it's cheap, and for the gym rats that judge purely by the scale - they will gain weight. They don't realize until later that all this 'weight' is fat and water. Fat and water gain makes you stronger too, so it really makes them think it is awesome stuff.
We have some of the best labs and food chemists in the world contracted independently. Some of these labs have been making Beverly a long time and each of our labs run checks on the others. When companies take bids from different labs for manufacturing needs, these labs will actually use the fact that they make Beverly as a selling point. Because people in the industry know it's the real deal. On top of all that, we even have two independent testing labs that do nothing but test our finished products. Each batch of out products comes with an analysis from the lab, but we still send off the finished and labeled product (the same as what you pick up at the gym or store) to be analyzed by our two testing labs. This Double check system ensures that any product you get with the Beverly Label on it will be 100%+ of the claim.
EXERCISES FOR QUAD SWEEP?
Q: I can't get quad shape and lower sweep. Help!
A: There are many factors that determine the shape of someone's quadriceps. Unless you have the genetics of an Olympic sprinter or professional bodybuilder, you better examine your training closely. Squatting with a side of beef may not directly relate to better shape in your legs. The amount of weight you use or the exercise you pick is not nearly as important as the way you perform that exercise.
The single most important factor that almost every weight trainer overlooks when trying to develop freakish sweeps in the quads can be summed up in 3 letters ....... (ROM) and that means really -- lack of full range of motion. How often have you seen someone in the gym that obviously can't handle the weight on the bar and is only moving the weight a few inches? Without a full range of movement, too many leg workouts are wasted. There is a major difference between power and shape in leg muscles. The type of exercise you perform does make a difference and exercises such as squats, front squats, lunges, hack squats are all effective. Varying the positioning of your feet should help, but without completing each repetition with a full range you may be setting up for failure.
Even advanced powerlifters will tell you that deep, full squats are the best way to insure continual results. Quarter movements will result in a quarter of the muscle fibers being stimulated. Full range in all your movements will result in a full range of all the muscle fibers being stimulated. This will ensure the exercise you are performing will be done the way it was intended.
Quantity does not always equal quality. Most advanced trainers understand to stimulate all areas of the quadriceps muscles they must use a full range of movement in their exercises. The next time you do a squat, leg press or any other leg exercise go all the way down and back up. Your legs will shape up! The weights you use may go down initially, but after stimulating all fibers and attacking your deficiencies, the strength will come back better than before with a sweep that will make you proud to wear shorts in the summer.
Sample Leg Workout for Freaky Leg Sweeps:
- Squats (Full ROM - below parallel) 5 sets x 15/12/10/8/6 reps (Pyramid weight with reps)
- Front Squats (Full ROM - below parallel) 3 sets x 12 reps
- Leg Extensions 3 sets x 12 - 15 reps
- Stiff - Leg Deadlifts or Lunges 3 sets x 10 - 12 reps
(Stiff - Leg Deadlifts) Keep legs straight / shoulders back / head up / butt out / lean forward until you feel a complete stretch in your hamstrings / come back up slightly below upright
- Leg Curls 3 sets x 12 reps
**** Note: If you have knee problems or anything else that prevents Full ROM please be careful. Try either using a lighter weight or a different exercise that doesn't bother you. If you have any pre-existing injuries please advise your physician before making these workout adjustments.
