NOCTURNAL NITROGEN?
Q: I recently read about taking slow digesting proteins at bedtime or during the night to promote recovery and build muscle. I think what I was reading may have been an ad for those new night-time proteins but it opened my eyes, that almost half of the time I have to grow and recover is spent sleeping! I am only concerned with weight gain and pure size right now - is this something you would suggest?
A: Oh, for Pete's sake. Why not invest in an $8 alarm clock and some Ultra Size instead of forking over $117 for a month supply of the 'night time proteins' on the market. In fact, just skip the alarm clock and get yourself some skim or 2% milk or whipping cream and mix that with Ultra Size (or even Provider and egg protein) just before bed - just do not use whey alone.
I would chalk night nitrogen up to the "supplement of the month fad" that is so popular in the magazines..
There is always talk of some radical new supplement that has just been discovered and is going to change bodybuilding forever, like androstenedione, huh? We would argue that scientifically, the next real legit compound that will truly be physique altering and set a new industry standard has actually been around a few years in research, but will first appear to the mass market in Beverly's Muscle Synergy. It appears that one of the secret proteins in these night formulas is wheat protein. Wow that's innovative! Long time Beverly disciples may remember a story in the No Nonsense Newsletter a few years back in which a Beverly client named John Meadows gained 30 pounds in a very short period of time. His real world secret for this was mixing Muscle Provider in a jug of milk and gulping down a big dose whenever he woke up at night. I don't think he even used an alarm clock. Yes it's true that a lot of your recovery time is spent sleeping. (Note; Jeff Everson is currently doing the same thing with MET-Rx chocolate RTD and Beverly Muscle Synergy.
